Holy Land 2022 Trip

May 16

New Heights is going to the Holy Land! This is NOT just another site-seeing tour. Join Jim Hall, Lee Epstein, and Josh Graber on a trip to Israel, where we will study God's Word at the very places where those stories took place. Get ready for the story of the Bible to come alive in your heart and mind like never before!

Our guide will be Dr. Wave Nunnally, Emeritus Professor of Early Judaism and Christian Origins at Evangel University. Dr. Nunnally is an expert in Jewish backgrounds, New Testament, Hebrew language and the land of Israel. He has lived in Israel and has over 40 years in the field. In addition to touring, he leads courses for Israeli tour guides on how to deliver biblical instruction to western evangelicals, including ancient texts and the Bible. We can say from first-hand experience that he is an excellent teacher and guide, and we are excited to travel with him again. Find out more about Dr Nunnally here.

This 13-day trip will take us to many different Biblical locations where we will unpack the story from the Bible and examine the significance of why the event took place where it did. We are limiting the number of available seats for this trip in order to make it a more intimate experience. This will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Registration tips:

A few things to note for registration.

  • You DO NOT fill out the entire form right away. You won’t have some of the information (like airlines, travel insurance, etc.). Fill out what you can and skip the other steps. You can pay the deposit to secure your spot and then return later to update your information when you have it.
  • When it asks for “Name of Pastor or Tour Leader” put “Josh Graber”
  • If you and your spouse both want to go, you’ll need to both sign up individually.
  • If you do not have a desired roommate but are open to sharing a room, DO NOT select the single room option. We will do our best to pair you with a roommate and save you the extra cost. Only select the single room option if you want to stay alone.

A typical day

We wake up early and eat a buffet breakfast at the hotel before loading onto our own tour bus. Then we travel to 5-8 different biblical sites throughout the day, spending time at each location unpacking the Biblical story that happened there. Lunch is usually out and about, maybe from a street vendor or local shop. In the evening we return to our hotel for a big buffet dinner and time to relax. Over the course of the trip we will be staying at several different hotels/resorts, including one on the Sea of
Galilee, one near the Dead Sea, and one in Jerusalem.

While we will be taking a tour bus to different locations, this trip also involves a good amount of walking: between 2-4 miles each day, over the course of the whole day (not all at once). It's important that you be in good enough physical health to be able to handle that. If you've got questions or concerns about this, please contact Josh Graber to discuss: 479-310-6311 or joshgraber [at] newheightschurch.com

FAQ

We will be working with a travel agent to secure group flights for those traveling from XNA. A typical flight from XNA to Tel Aviv runs around $1500. If you'd like to use credit card points or airline miles you will need to book your flights yourself. Josh Graber will reach out to you to discuss flight options after you register. DO NOT book your flights until he's contacted you.

While we don't know the future, we expect that international travel in 2022 might require either proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test result before boarding a flight. Israel leads the world in vaccinating its population and has a very low infection rate. If you become infected before the trip and are unable to travel because of quarantine, that's where trip insurance kicks in (see below).

If you would like a single-occupancy room there will be an additional fee involved. We may also be able to pair you up with a roommate if you'd like.

Yes. Don't wait to begin the process of obtaining or renewing your passport. It can take several months.

Basic medical insurance while in Israel is built into the cost of the trip. However, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance through Travel Guard. You can purchase a plan directly on their website: travelguard.com. You must purchase within 15 days of your initial trip deposit to get the best coverage. We recommend the Preferred Plan.

We will have a series of mandatory meetings in the spring of 2022 to prepare for the trip together. We will discuss things like what to pack, look at some of the locations we will traveling to, and get to know each other before the big adventure. We'll also have some books, videos, and other resources available to help you get ready, as well as periodic emails with things to think about.

Besides the land trip cost, airfare, and trip insurance, we recommend bringing several hundred dollars with you for lunches and misc. expenses. While breakfast and dinner are usually covered, lunch is not. Plan on spending $15-20 on lunch each day, maybe $5-10 a day on drinks, and additional money on souvenirs. VISA and MasterCard are excepted many places, and we'll be able to exchange money at the airport in Tel Aviv.

Yes, that it totally up to you. If you'd like to make arrangements for activities outside of the core of this trip you are welcome to. The travel agent we are working with for flights can assist if you'd like. Talk to Josh Graber if you plan on bookending this trip with additional travel: 479-310-6311 or joshgraber [at] newheightschurch.com
